Ingredients

Ingredients for 4 people

  • 4 ground beef burgers (beef or mixed, as preferred)
  • 4 slices of bacon
  • 1 large onion
  • 4 hamburger buns
  • 4 slices of cheddar cheese or processed cheddar slices
  • 4–5 pickles
  • 1 large tomato or 2 small ones
  • Fresh lettuce (lettuce or lamb’s lettuce)
  • Extra virgin olive oil
  • Salt and pepper to taste

For the lemon mustard:

  • 2 tablespoons mustard (Dijon)
  • Juice of half a lemon
  • Pepper to taste
  • 1 tablespoon extra virgin olive oil
Preparation

Slice the onion into thin rings. Heat a pan with a drizzle of extra virgin olive oil and cook the onion over medium heat until soft and lightly caramelized. In a separate pan, heat the bacon until crispy and golden, then set it aside on paper towels.

In a third pan, add a drizzle of olive oil and cook the burgers over medium-high heat. Season with salt and pepper to taste. Cooking time depends on preference: 3–4 minutes per side for medium doneness, longer if you prefer well-done meat.

Cut the buns in half and lightly warm the inside in a pan or oven. Place a slice of cheddar on each half so it melts slightly with the heat of the bread.

On the bottom bun with cheddar, place the burger first, then the crispy bacon and caramelized onions. Add tomato slices, pickles, and some fresh lettuce leaves. Dress with lemon mustard: mix mustard with lemon juice, olive oil, and a pinch of pepper. Close with the top bun.

Serve immediately, optionally with crispy fries or a fresh salad. Every bite will be an explosion of flavors: juicy meat, crispy bacon, melted cheese, and the fresh, slightly tangy note of lemon mustard and pickles.
